The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) said in a statement yesterday that the government will continue to support and promote women’s development through various policies and measures, in which the bureau this year will launch five long-term measures highlighted in the seven-year Macau Women’s Development Goals (2019-2025).

Today marks the 113th anniversary of International Women’s Day.

According to the statement, the plan focuses on women’s development in eight priority areas, comprising gender mainstreaming*, women in decision-making, women and education and training, women and health, women and social welfare, women’s safety and the law, women and the economy, and women and the media and culture, of which 79 short -, medium - and long-term measures, 36 measures in the short term (2019-2021) and 24 measures in the medium term (2021-2023) have all been implemented.

The statement added that among the 19 measures set to be implemented in the long-term in 2023-2025, four have so far been put into effect, with five measures slated to get off the ground this year.

The long-term goals include empowering women in politics and enhancing their participation in public decision-making, enhancing women’s decision-making in business and social organisations, promoting women’s diversified development and encouraging them to pursue lifelong learning, as well as promoting women’s upward mobility through the implementation of “family-friendly” welfare policies, strengthening the regulation of the provision of breastfeeding facilities, enhancing the mental health of women by expanding their professional support services, and studying the enactment of legislation to promote gender equality.
