The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) announced in a statement yesterday that it will start a project on Friday to improve pavement facilities and remove all fences surrounding Comendador Ho Yin Park in Zape.

The project, which will be carried out in four phases, is scheduled to be completed in 120 working days, the statement said.

Comendador Ho Yin Park, which opened in 1993, has been split into two parts by a road since 2005, enabling vehicles from Rua de Pequim to travel to Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes directly.

The park covers an area of around 10,000 square metres.

Comendador Ho Yin Park faces Dr Carlos D’Assumpção Park in Nape in the south.

The avenue outside Comendador Ho Yin Park is the two-way Alameda Dr Carlos D’Assumpção which also runs along Dr Carlos D’Assumpção Park. However, the avenue’s two directions are separated by the two parks in the middle. The avenue’s northbound vehicular traffic runs along the west side of the two parks, while the southbound traffic runs along the two parks’ east side.

The two parks are separated by Avenida da Amizade, which serves as the main dividing line between Zape and Nape. Alameda Dr Carlos D’Assumpção on the Zape and Nape sides are connected by two one-way flyovers crossing Avenida da Amizade.

Yesterday’s statement noted that some parts of the pavement outside Comendador Ho Yin Park are narrow, making it inconvenient for pedestrians to walk in the area.

According to the statement, the project will resurface and widen the pavement outside the park with the aim of improving the flow of pedestrians.

In addition, the statement said, the project will also remove all fences surrounding the park with the aim of improving the park’s “visual transparency”.

During the project’s duration, according to the statement, the park will remain open, with certain sections of the pavement surrounding the park to be temporarily closed where work is being carried out.

The project’s first phase will be carried out at the park’s south side facing Avenida da Amizade, while the last phase will be carried out at the park’s north side facing Avenida do Dr Rodrigo Rodrigues.

A similar project was carried out for Dr Carlos D’Assumpção Park last year. It was completed earlier this year.
