Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs announced yesterday that a mainland man has been arrested for smuggling eight bottles of Maotai wine from Macau to Zhuhai hidden in eight bottles of shower gel.
Gongbei Customs said that the incident happened last Saturday night. Customs officers intercepted a mainland man at a “nothing to declare channel” who acted suspiciously, and found him carrying eight bottles of shower gel, none of which showed signs of having been opened for use, but the bottom of each bottle had been cut open.
Customs officers checked the bottles and found a bottle of Moutai wine hidden inside each bottle of shower gel.
The Gongbei Customs said that carrying, mailing or posting goods prohibited or restricted in the mainland as well as dutiable goods entering or leaving the mainland are considered ways of smuggling, and those caught will be held criminally liable depending on the seriousness of the case.
