The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) said in a reply to a recent written interpellation by lawmaker-cum-banker Ngan Iek Hang that the bureau will strengthen patriotic education measures for F1 students, such as launching a “Patriotism Education Camp” in the 2024/2025 academic year to visit the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin or another place in Zhuhai.
The DSEDJ statement said that the new measures are in line with the implementation of the mainland’s Patriotic Education Law, with the aim of enhancing students’ understanding of the development of the whole nation and Macau.
The statement said that the bureau will further enhance the elements of patriotism education in the local school curriculum with the launch of supplementary teaching materials on national security education, prepared in conjunction with professional organisations. The materials will be released in the 2024/2025 academic year, which begins in the autumn.
The statement also said that the bureau is working together with local tertiary institutions to provide Liberal Studies subjects with elements of national education, including the national Constitution and the local Basic Law, in their new or revised study plans for undergraduate programmes.
In addition, in order to capitalise on the important milestones of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland, the bureau will increase the number of credits of the bureau’s Patriotic Education Plan.
The bureau will also organise a youth dance festival as well as a number of school sporting events in Macau with the participation of Guangdong, Hong Kong and foreign countries to create a local atmosphere of patriotism, as well as to promote friendship and exchanges between local and overseas students.
