The local government says that it is paying close attention to a case in which a fishing vessel with three Macau residents and five mainlanders on board went missing in the sea around the Wanshan Archipelago last Thursday, which is situated south of the mouth of the Pearl River estuary and Hong Kong.
Wanshan Archipelago refers to a group of some 100 islands and islets in the area, most of which are administered by Zhuhai. The archipelago also includes Macau’s Taipa and Coloane islands as well as a number of islands and islets in Hong Kong (such as Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island and the other islands and islets administered by Hong Kong).
According to local media reports, the fishing boat went missing near Dawanshan Island last Thursday night after it was suspected of having been hit by a waterspout.
