Sands China held the “2024 Sands China Macao International 10K” on Sunday, in which nearly 10,000 runners from 48 countries and regions took part, according to a statement by the integrated resort (IR) operator yesterday.

During the event, the IR’s signature entertainment performers from its Cotai properties cheered runners on throughout the race and enhanced its “festive atmosphere”, the statement said. Sands also invited 400 of its staff and community members to join the run, with its Sands Cares Ambassadors and local NGO members completing the race.

The statement added that the company gave full support to the event’s coordination and promotion across the Greater Bay Area (GBA), and also collaborated with several local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the preparation process to help them gain experience and showcase their capabilities.

In the run-up to the race, warm-up sessions were also organised by Sands Cares Ambassadors, on March 3 at Sai Van Lake and at The Venetian Macao lagoon on March 10 for the Macau Special Olympics (MSO), Richmond Fellowship of Macau and Bosco Youth Service Network, the statement said, also helping participants with things such as familiarising them with the race course.

After their warm-up session on March 10, the statement added that MSO and Richmond Fellowship of Macau also joined games at the FUN Kids Interactive Running Zone at The Venetian Macao in Cotai, which was set up from March 9 to 16 and drew over 2,500 participants.

Moreover, the popular Sands 10K Presents: The FUNkiest Costume Award had 10 winners receiving experience packages from The Parisian Macao, each valued at 3,500 patacas, the statement said.

Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted by the statement as saying: “This year’s race has seen an overwhelming response with runners from around the world actively signing up, suggesting that the appeal of the event is evident and its brand effect is gradually developing.

“By collaborating with the Macau SAR and other community sectors, we will continue to add brilliance to the ‘City of Sports’ through large-scale competitions, presenting a healthy and lively image of Macau”, Wong added.
