1st Int’l Macao Shorts Film Fest kicks off

The 1st Macao International Shorts Film Festival launched with an opening ceremony and opening screenings on Saturday at Galaxy Macau’s Galaxy Cinemas in Cotai, according to a statement by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) on that day.

The film-fest runs until this Saturday.

The opening films screened were the Oscar nominated “Knight of Fortune” by Lasse Lyskjær Noer, “Chuff Chuff Chuff” by Chao Koi Wang, and AirHostess-737 by Thanasis Neofotistos, the statement noted. Noer and Chao were among the guests at the opening event, sharing insights with the audience prior to the screenings.

The statement said that over 50 films will be shown at Galaxy Cinemas and Cinematheque•Passion throughout the event period across four screening sections: “Macao Shorts”, “New Voices from Horizon”, “Director In Focus” and “Special Screenings”.

A closing and award ceremony is slated to be held this Friday at the Galaxy International Convention Centre (GICC), with 10 shortlisted short films in the “Macao Shorts” competing for the “Best Macao Short” Award, according to the statement.

The statement added that 26 works from around the world in the “New Voices from Horizon” section will compete for the “Best Short Film”, the “Best Technical Contribution Award”, the “Best Director Award” and the “Innovative Storytelling Award”.

Aside from the screenings, thematic workshops and “lectures by masters” will also be held throughout the event period, according to the statement.
