A 23-year-old local woman was arrested on Friday on suspicion of cheating a local man out of 40,000 patacas by exploiting her father’s position as a public servant, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said yesterday during a regular press conference.

According to the spokesperson, a local man reported the case to the police on Thursday. He told officers that the suspect, surnamed Sio, had been introduced to him by a mutual friend.

The victim told the police that Sio told him in October that her father was a public servant and could help him obtain approval for a Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) flat, which he had applied for, within two weeks if he paid her 40,000 patacas, and promised a total refund if the application was unsuccessful.
