Benson Lam Iam Sang, a local artist-cum-interior designer who initially designed and made 3D paper art, has branched out and is currently displaying his “Geometric Elements” illustration exhibition at the Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) Gallery until April 13.
There are 25 digital illustrations on display as well as one of his 3D papercraft dogs. The crystal frame digital illustrations show city landscapes, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Macau, architectural space, cross-culture photography and pets as well as some abstracts with abstract colours.
The Post spoke to Lam before the opening ceremony at the gallery on Tuesday evening where he said, “Most people like the geometric style, so many have asked if I can do some illustrations to hang on the wall at home or in the office, while keeping it similar in the nature of paper folding.”
When asked how he makes the illustrations, Lam said, “First I take 3D modelling software combined with photographs I have taken and gain a little inspiration from artificial intelligence (AI) and combine them all to generate the result.”
Lam said that it usually takes at least three days to make one illustration. He also said that he had been working on the artwork for four months so that he could then choose which were the best to show at the exhibition.
Lam has also produced some postcards to show people what he has created on Facebook that are exclusive for the digital pictures.
When asked if he can customise any of the illustrations so that they are tailor made, Lam said, “I can change the colours and sizes, but making too many changes would be too difficult.”
During his speech at the opening ceremony, Lam said, “This is my first digital illustration exhibition and the themes cover urban landscapes, architectural space, cross-culture photography and pets. Using the crystal frames is a pleasant presentation as home décor.”
Lam also told the Post, “I am planning to hold an exhibition in Bangkok, it is under negotiation at the moment and it will probably be held in September.”
The exhibition was originally slated to be held until April 6, but it was announced at the opening ceremony that it will now close on April 13.
The exhibition is being held on the ground floor of Luen Pong Building, 749 Avenida da Praia Grande.
