A 35-year-old local man has been arrested for sexually harassing a woman “after drinking a large quantity of alcoholic beverages”, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong noted that the suspect, a construction worker, is surnamed Lo, while the victim, a university student from the mainland, is in her twenties.
According to the victim’s report, when crossing a footbridge with her husband at Qingmao border checkpoint, a man suddenly approached and touched her chest and buttocks. Her husband immediately intercepted Lo and reported the case to the police. Lo was arrested at the scene.
Under questioning, according to Cheong, Lo claimed that he had consumed a large quantity of alcoholic beverages, leading to the offence.
Lo has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, Cheong noted.
