Macau Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) Administrative Committee Vice President O Lam said yesterday that the supply of “fresh chickens” to Macau from the mainland had been stable and smooth for more than a month, with a daily average of 2,700 fresh chickens arriving in Macau.

O made the remarks during the government-appointed IAM Administrative Committee’s open-door meeting at the IAM headquarters in the city centre yesterday when replying to committee members’ enquiry about Macau’s supply of fresh chickens.

O said that most of the fresh chickens need to be pre-ordered, a small number of which are available in supermarkets for retail sales, adding that the fresh chickens sell well.

According to local media reports, IAM officials said in a meeting of the Northern District Community Service Consultative Council Committee earlier this month that, on average, 2,500 fresh chickens were being supplied to Macau every day.

Since February 2, fresh chickens have been supplied to local markets daily within one-and-a-half hours after their slaughter and processing early in the morning by the suppliers in Zhuhai.

During yesterday’s meeting, committee member Chan Ka Keng raised the issue of the city’s food safety, saying he hoped the bureau would continue to pay close attention to all food products “from all over” Japan, release relevant information in a timely manner and raise, if needed, the response level.

In addition, committee member Cheong Ka Man suggested the bureau study the feasibility of integrating information on accessible facilities in various districts of Macau into the bureau’s online app, and to introduce barrier-free and user-friendly interfaces from the perspective of the users, as well as to optimise the accessibility guidelines in parks and green spaces, such as adding barrier-free maps and manuals in local parks.
