Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon announced yesterday the arrest of a female non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland for fake employment and involvement in prostitution.

Wong identified the suspect in her twenties, surnamed Xu, as an “intermediary” for other sex workers.

The Public Security Police were tipped off in January, according to Wong, that Xu had fraudulently obtained a local work permit (colloquially known as a blue card) through a fake employment contract so that she could engage in prostitution in Macau. A PSP investigation confirmed that Xu had applied for a blue card twice in 2022, first as an employee of a restaurant and later to work for a multimedia company.

Wong said during yesterday’s regular meeting that PSP officers arrested Xu at a hotel in Nam Van on the night of March 17. Under questioning by the police, she admitted to having worked as a prostitute since last year, while also having acted as an “intermediary” since the beginning of this year by introducing at least two women to two “unknown” pimps.

According to the PSP investigation, Wong said, each sex service provided by the two women was priced at between HK$4,000 and HK$5,000, and sometimes even reached HK$10,000. Xu told the police that she had been promised by the two pimps a commission of 10 percent for each sex service provided by the two women, adding that she had earned about HK$10,000 in “commission” by working as an “intermediary”.

According to Wong, Xu was granted a blue card as a restaurant employee in January 2022, which was revoked when the restaurant closed in August of that year. In September of the same year, Xu was granted a blue card again by the government to work as a photographer’s assistant for a multimedia company in the northern district. The PSP investigation showed, Wong added, that the suspect had never worked for either company.

Under further questioning, Xu insisted that she invested more than 100,000 patacas into the restaurant in exchange for assistance from her “ex-boss” in applying for her blue card, adding that she got to know the owner of the multimedia company through the ex-boss after the restaurant shut down.

According to Wong, the former restaurant owner, holding a blue card as a decorator, is a man in his forties surnamed Lin.

Wong noted that PSP officers caught Lin at the Barrier Gate checkpoint a few days ago, adding that the Public Security Police were still looking for the multimedia owner who was not in Macau at the time of the press conference.

Both Xu and Lin have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
