The Macau government opened tonight the city's sixth quarantine hotel, the Treasure Hotel in Taipa.
According to a statement by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the 400-room Treasure is a hotel yet to open. It is adjacent to the city's second designated hotel for medical observation, the Golden Crown China Hotel opposite the Macau International Airport.
The statement pointed out that the Treasure Hotel will provide cleaning, security and catering services. In addition, according to the statement, the government has arranged with a number of tour guide associations for their members to provide reception services at the hotel.
Due to a 95 percent year-on-year fall in visitor arrivals last month, virtually all tour guides are jobless.
Based on previous MGTO statements, the six hotels provide a total of about 1,600 rooms for persons under medical observation, mostly local residents who returned from overseas, about 80 percent of them students, officials said earlier today.
According to this afternoon's daily press conference by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, at that time about 1,100 people stayed at the then five designated hotels.
Anyone diagnosed with the novel coronavirus during their hotel stay will be transferred immediately to the public hospital's isolation ward for treatment.
