A South Korean man has been arrested for robbing a local woman, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lei Chi Hou said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The 36-year-old suspect surnamed Jang told the police that he works at a warehouse.
According to Lei, on Friday at 2 a.m. when the victim was walking along Calçada do Tronco Velho, Jang approached her and snatched her handbag. While struggling, the victim fell and suffered a fractured finger. The handbag contained 10,000 patacas in cash, Lei noted.
Upon receiving the victim’s report, the police quickly identified the suspect and arrested him in a sauna in Nam Van district at 7 a.m. the same day.
Under questioning, Jang admitted to the crime and said that he committed it after gambling all his money away, claiming that he had also gambled away all the ill-gotten money. The handbag was recovered in the street where Jang discarded it after removing all the cash, Lei noted.
Jang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a robbery charge.
