Luso International Banking Limited pledged yesterday that it will develop itself into an “advanced” bank in terms of its participation in the development of Macau’s bond market as well as a bank offering wealth management products with “special features”.

The bank’s chairman, Huang Laizhi, made the remarks when delivering a speech during a dinner for the media marking the 50th anniversary of its establishment.

Luso International Banking Limited was established on December 4, 1974 when Macau was still under temporary Portuguese administration.

The bank is headquartered in the high-rise Luso International Bank Building in Nam Van. The commercial building was built in 1983.

Yesterday’s dinner was held on the building’s fourth floor, which is now used as the bank’s canteen for its staff. The building’s fourth and fifth floors were previously leased out to various restaurants at different times. After the last restaurant closed a few years ago, the bank turned the fourth floor into its canteen and the fifth floor into office space.

Huang noted in his speech that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), and the 3rd anniversary of the establishment of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Huang said that with these three “big” celebrations, this year also marks the 50th anniversary of Luso International Banking Limited’s establishment.

Huang also stressed that this year is a “big political” year, pledging that the bank expects to work hard with the media with the aim of creating a good atmosphere for the three “big” celebrations.

The chairman also pledged that his bank will firmly grasp the opportunities created by the nation’s development, integrate itself into the nation’s overall development, and give full play to its unique advantages in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.

Huang had a formal meeting with Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng last month.
