Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lei Chi Hou said at a press conference yesterday that the police received separate reports from 33 local residents saying that their credit card information was stolen as a result of clicking onto phishing links earlier this week.

The victims comprise 24 females and nine males, with 24 of them being middle-aged, five elderly, and four under the age of 30. Nearly 30 cases were related to the e-payment platform “Union Pay,” while the remaining cases were linked to Mannings and the telecommunications company 3Macau. The fraudulent messages purported that the victims’ loyalty points were about to expire, urging them to click on the embedded links.

According to Lei, six victims had already suffered unauthorised deductions from their bank accounts, while the others had not yet reported any losses. The total reported losses amounted to 92,200 patacas.
