The Macau government has announced that an immigration clearance hall for vehicle passengers at the Hengqin joint border checkpoint will come into service at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

The Secretariat for Security (GSS) made the announcement in a statement on Friday.

Since the Macau-mainland joint checkpoint on Zhuhai’s Hengqin island opened in August 2020, vehicle passengers in general have been required to pass border controls via its pedestrian checkpoint building, except four special groups, who are allowed to pass border controls via the checkpoint’s vehicle inspection channels with the drivers, namely those aged 70 or over, those aged 10 or below, pregnant women, and those with disabilities.

After the new immigration clearance hall near the vehicle inspection channels opens, all eligible vehicle passengers can pass border controls via the new hall without having to use the pedestrian checkpoint building.

This handout photo taken and released by the Secretariat for Security (GSS) on Friday shows the Hengqin checkpoint’s new departure hall for vehicle passengers, which will open tomorrow.
