A Thai female student has been arrested for smuggling a package of ketamine into Macau, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The 18-year-old suspect is surnamed Semasura.

According to Lei, on Sunday evening, the police, customs officers, and the Public Security Police’s (PSP) canine team conducted a joint operation. During a random inspection of a flight from Bangkok, Semasura proceeded through the inspection area, and the police dog alerted its handler to her luggage. Police then searched her luggage and discovered a package of ketamine weighing 2.14 grammes.

Additionally, a straw suspected of being used to take drugs was found on the suspect, Lei said.

Under questioning, Semasura claimed that she had purchased the drugs at a Thai night club for 600 baht (133 patacas) and forgot to take them out before entering Macau. Semasura tested positive for ketamine.

Semasura has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing drug-related charges, according to Lei.
