Two participants in the Macau Short Film Competition, which was part of the 1st Macau International Film Festival & Awards Macau (IFFAM), yesterday slammed the contest for its alleged unfairness.

According to the rules of the contest, the competition’s Selection Committee was to shortlist five entries and upload them to the IFFAM official Facebook page for netizens to vote.

A contestant surnamed Chan told The Macau Post Daily on the phone her group suspected that a rival group had “bought” likes on Facebook. “We discovered that the number of likes suddenly increased a lot, like about 20 per hour...”. Chan said she had also noticed that the viewing number did not increase in tandem with the likes. “But many of those who voted for them were fake accounts which had no profile pictures, Facebook friends and status updates,” Chan said.
