The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is launching a “Library Primary Schools” School Outreach Programme to promote reading to students from kindergarten grade 3 (K3) to primary school grade 3 (P3), from April to December, according to an IC statement yesterday

The programme will accept applications from schools from now on, with a total of 40 sessions free of charge on a first-come-first-served basis, the statement said.

According to the statement, the activity will provide information on library resources and services through a lively and entertaining theatre performance combined with an adventurous plot, as well as ways to apply for library cards, and the etiquette of using libraries, so as to enable students to learn about the smart services and the convenience of libraries.

Each activity lasts for about 40 minutes and is conducted in Cantonese, the statement said.

The statement said that the programme aims to cultivate students’ reading interest and quality, enhance their knowledge and understanding of public libraries, and attract them to actively use library resources and services, adding that the bureau has always been committed to promoting reading through various means to help build a city of reading.

Interested schools are welcome to apply for the programme. The programme prospectus and application form can be found on the bureau’s website at www.library.gov.mo. For enquiries, please call 8598 6664 or 8598 6663 during office hours.
