Many people believe that the moment we are born, we are destined to be someone and we are meant to follow that path from then on. But is it best to believe in destiny and neglect who you want to be?
Going with the flow is undeniably the best way to keep yourself adapted to society and not to do anything wrong. Our parents have always told us since childhood that they have drawn the perfect path for us and that if we stay obedient, we are going to have a perfect future, with becoming doctors and teachers always the ideal career choice for them. Many doctors are so successful, but nevertheless, can everyone studying medicine be as successful as they are? What I believe is that being what you should be can keep you from failure, but being what you want to be can create a fulfilling life.
How I realised the importance of doing what I like is simple: since I was a child, many peers around me have been learning different instruments and I always wanted to follow suit. But I just couldn’t put any effort into any of them and eventually gave up after a few months. And I realised that what everyone does might not always suit me and I should understand what I want to do and learn that instead.
Following my own path is always a permanent goal for me. Up to now, I do not know what I want to be in the future, but I have been searching for what I want to do. While discovering my passion, I have faced a lot of challenges, which makes me pause. I have tried to attend medical classes, exchange programmes, and career experiences to find my passion. Although the process is hard and time-consuming, I am grateful that I have preliminarily found what I want to continue studying and developing further.
Letting nature take its course is comfortable and worry-free, however, I believe that I can do more than what I can do now. I can be a better person than someone I am destined to be. If I could choose again, I would still leave the path I have always followed and discover my journey. I am on my way, and I am who I want to be.
