Integrated resort operator MGM has recently organised the “MGM World Reading Day Celebration Series” in the run up to the recently held World Reading Day, which is held annually on April 23.
The series is supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM – Gung Luen in Cantonese).
The statement said that the “MGM World Reading Day Celebration Series to Nurture Great Talent and Craftsmanship” was held at MGM MACAU, which also saw the inauguration of the “Golden Lion Reading Corner” in company’s back-of-house area, aiming to make books more easily available to staff.
A number of guests attended the recent event, where FAOM President Ho Sut Heng also encouraged MGM staff to strive for excellence through craftsmanship and to constantly upgrade their skills, the statement said.
The statement added that the Worker Book House of FAOM has provided various resources for the Golden Lion Reading Corner, while staff members also have access to digital resources from a system operated by the China Worker Publishing House, such as e-books and audiobooks, making MGM the first company in Macau to have this privilege.
IC has also designated MGM as a “Reading Point” of the ongoing “Reading in the City” campaign to “promote a vibrant reading culture and support the personal growth” of staff through reading. Both MGM properties held roadshows to enable staff to learn more about the services of public libraries in Macau, which the company has been collaborating with since 2018 by hosting reading promotional events, and how to use their digital learning resources.
