Hotel guests rise 39.7 pct in Q1

 A total of nearly 3.78 million guests checked into Macau’s 141 hotels in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year growth of 39.7 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.

Hotel guests accounted for 42.5 percent of the 8.87 million visitor arrivals in the first three months.

Hotel guests from the Chinese mainland (2.81 million), Hong Kong (460,000) and Taiwan (89,000) rose by 40.1 percent, 0.8 percent and 180.7 percent respectively. The number of South Korean guests increased by 789.0 percent year on year.

Guests’ average length of stay amounted to 1.7 nights, an increase of 0.2 night compared to the first quarter in pre-pandemic 2019.

In March, the average occupancy rate of guestrooms rose by 6.4 percentage points year on year to 83.5 percent.

The number of available guestrooms grew by 19.6 percent to 47,000 at the end of last month.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter, the number of visitors arriving on package tours increased by 329.9 percent year on year to 482,000.
