The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a statement yesterday that it will provide free portable fans to those who need to work in a hot and humid environment for a long time, such as construction workers and other outdoor workers, as well as indoor workers close to heat sources.

The new measure is to prevent the occurrence of heat stroke in the summer in Macau, and improve workers’ comfort, as well as work efficiency and productivity, the statement said.

According to the statement, the rechargeable fan is small and can be hung around the waist to blow cool air into the clothes, and on the neck to cool body heat, keeping the user’s skin and clothes dry from sweat.

Applications from companies for the fans are now being accepted, the statement said, adding that eligible enterprises – those in the construction, logistics, exhibition, cleaning, horticulture, food manufacturing and laundry sectors – with no more than 300 employees in Macau, can apply for the anti-heat sets for local employees, with priority given to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the statement said.

The bureau has been giving out a number of occupational safety and anti-heat products, including fall protection anchors, first-aid kits, safety harnesses, portable work tables, portable air traps, cut- and heat-resistant gloves, since 2018, the statement said.

For further details on the application for the promotion programmes, interested parties may visit the website of the bureau at www.dsal.gov.mo, call 28717781 or send an email to dsaldsso@dsal.gov.mo.
