A local man lost his mobile phone in the mainland on Tuesday last week, but recovered it in Macau three days later from a male non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland, according to a regular police press conference on Friday.
A Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson released details of the case during Friday’s press conference, quoting the victim as saying that he lost his mobile phone after taking a taxi in the mainland on April 27, adding that as he suspected that the phone had been picked up by someone in the taxi, he located the mobile phone via its GPS tracker on another device. On April 30, the victim discovered that his mobile phone was on a local bus so he waited for it at a bus stop on Avenida 1 de Maio. The victim got on the bus and activated the lost mobile phone’s alarm function with another device, which helped him identify the person holding his lost phone.
PSP officers called by the victim to the scene arrested the suspect surnamed Chen, who is in his forties. Chen admitted that he picked up the victim’s phone in the mainland, insisting that due to frequent overtime work, he had not been able to hand over the mobile phone to a police station for the time being.
The spokesperson noted that the suspect, who told the police that he works as a decorator, has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation, where he faces a theft-by-finding charge.
