Macau's motor vehicles rise 0.5 pct to 253,182 in 2024

    Macau had 253,182 licensed motor vehicles at the end of last year, a year-on-year growth of 0.5 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced this week. 

   According to a DSEC statement, the number of new registrations of motor vehicles rose by 7.7 percent to 12,900 last year, including 4,045 electric vehicles, or 31.3 percent of the total. New registrations of light automobiles increased by 33.5 percent to 7,352, some 27.5 percent of which were electric vehicles, while new registrations of heavy motorcycles dropped by 22.5 percent to 4,267, some 22.1 percent of which were electric vehicles. 

   In 2024, the number of traffic accidents grew by 14.4 percent to 15,510, which resulted in 5 fatalities and 5,341 injuries.
