The Judiciary Police (PJ) announced yesterday details of two more telecom fraud losses, totalling over 230,000 patacas.
PJ spokesman Lou Chan Fai said during yesterday’s regular press conference that two young local women received calls from fraudsters posing as “China Mobile Customer Service” staff and “Mainland Public Security Bureau (PSB)” officers in October last year and on Tuesday this week respectively. The scammers told one of the women that she was suspected of promoting fake medicines through her messages, while they told the other one that she was spreading fraudulent messages, through their respective mainland phone numbers. The two victims told the Judiciary Police that they were asked to provide their bank account details including passwords, and also were told to transfer money or pay a “security deposit” to a designated account “for further investigation”.
The two victims reported to the Judiciary Police losses of HK$67,000 and 158,000 patacas on Wednesday and yesterday, respectively.
