The legislature yesterday passed a debate motion by directly-elected lawmaker Song Pek Kei, who questions whether it would be suitable to build the new central library on the site of the Old Courthouse in Praia Grande.
A total of 30 lawmakers cast their votes, with 25 supporting the motion. Indirectly-elected lawmakers Chui Sai Cheong and Kou Hoi In voted against the motion, while indirectly-elected lawmaker Andrew Chan Chak Mo and directly-elected lawmakers Angela Leong On Kei and Mak Soi Sun abstained.
Song pointed out that several members in the government-appointed Urban Planning Council questioned the suitability of the location during a regular meeting of the advisory body in September.
