The Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) said in a statement on Friday that it will be hosting celebratory activities for the “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day” (WTISD), which is held on May 17 each year.

In November 2006, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference proclaimed that the event would be celebrated annually on May 17, according to Wikipedia.

The statement noted that the bureau will host a celebratory ceremony on Friday morning at MGM MACAU’s Grand Ballroom. A seminar titled “Digital Innovation – Sustainable Development” will also be held, with members of academic institutions, and industry and government representatives invited to attend, according to the statement.

Commemorative envelopes will be distributed, while postmark services at the General Post Office (GPO) in Largo do Senado for the WTISD will be offered on the same day, the statement added.

Moreover, the statement said that local telecommunication operators will offer various service promotions, more details of which can be obtained by contacting them directly.
