The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Friday that it will carry out height-control pruning of an endangered Albizia lebbeck in S. Francisco Garden from today to Wednesday.

For safety reasons, members of the public are advised not to enter the enclosed area during the pruning period in order to avoid accidents, the statement said.

The bureau’s tree care staff have been taking pest and disease control, fertiliser and medication measures for the old tree, but the growing conditions of the trees have not improved, the statement said.

The statement said that the bureau will work with experts from the Guangzhou Institute of Forestry and Landscape Architecture to carry out inspections and monitoring of the tree in mid-May, and to design a rescue and maintenance plan, which will be implemented in accordance with the experts’ recommendations, in the hope that the old tree can regain vitality.

The bureau pledged that it will continue to monitor the tree’s condition.

Anyone who finds abnormalities in a tree in a public area should contact the bureau by calling 2833 7676 or via the “IAM Connect” app, according to the statement.
