A 19-year-old tourist from the mainland has been arrested for breaking into at least four cars with the intent of stealing valuables, according to Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hon during a regular press conference yesterday.
The male suspect surnamed An told the police that he runs an online shop.
According to Lei, a resident reported to the police that when he went to his car parked in a Taipa carpark, he discovered a man sitting inside rummaging through his belongings. The resident intercepted An and promptly informed the police. Upon their arrival at the scene, the resident informed them that he had a car wash card containing 4,500 patacas in the vehicle.
The police then examined An’s phone and discovered multiple photos of cars. They proceeded to contact three car owners who had parked their vehicles in the same carpark. None of them reported any losses. However, a female car owner told the police that the lock on her car door had been damaged.
Under questioning, An claimed that he gained access to the cars without using any tools.
An has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of aggravated theft and causing property damage, according to Lei.
