On the fourth day of his ongoing seven-day working visit to Macau, Xia Baolong, who heads both the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO), went to Hengqin yesterday where he visited various facilities, after having breakfast with “the older generation of patriots” in Macau in the morning, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) last night.
Xia arrived in Macau on Monday for a seven-day “investigation and research” tour.
According to local media reports, Xia had the breakfast meeting at The Plaza Restaurant in Zape, a Cantonese restaurant.
Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng also attended the breakfast meeting.
After their breakfast with the elderly patriots, the GCS statement said, Xia and Ho went to the Macau-Hengqin joint checkpoint where Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak and other officials briefed Xia about the operation of the checkpoint’s vehicle inspection channels and immigration clearance hall for vehicle passengers.
The statement said that after arriving in the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Xia visited a government service centre where he was briefed by Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong, who also heads the in-depth cooperation zone’s executive committee, and other officials about how Macau residents can use various public-administration services provided by the Macau government at the centre there.
Yesterday afternoon, the statement said, Xia visited the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) residential estate as well as a school there, which will be operated by Macau’s Hou Kong Middle School from the upcoming 2024/25 academic year.
The statement said that Xia visited the MNN show flats and the estate’s various facilities and amenities, after which he went to the school where he was briefed by its top executives about its facilities and operation.
In addition, the statement said, Xia visited two Macau enterprises operating in the in-depth cooperation zone with the aim of gaining an understanding about the two companies’ respective successes in expanding their businesses by grasping the opportunities created by the zone’s ongoing development.
The statement said that after his visit to Hengqin, Xia returned to Macau last night where he will continue his fact-finding tour today.
Xia’s “investigation and research” visit will end on Sunday.
