A Hong Kong student has been arrested for stealing a backpack, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The 20-year-old suspect is surnamed Chang.
According to Kong, a Hong Kong woman reported to the police in March that while she was at a hotel in Cotai, she placed her backpack near an escalator and went to find her friend. When she returned after approximately 15 minutes, the backpack, worth 21,400 patacas, was gone.
Police identified Chang as the suspect, and he was apprehended on Thursday at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint. Chang denied that he stole the backpack.
Kong noted that Chang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he faces a theft charge.
