The Judiciary Police (PJ) announced yesterday the arrest of a male public servant in his fifties, who stole on May 4 three Chinese antiques worth a total of 120,000 patacas from a jewellery shop in the city centre.
According to yesterday’s special press conference hosted by PJ spokesman Cheong Kim Fong, upon receiving a report from the jewellery shop’s owner on May 6 about his loss of three Chinese antiques worth 120,000 patacas in total, the Judiciary Police identified and arrested on Tuesday the male suspect in the vicinity of a hotel in Cotai, and recovered the stolen goods from his flat in the city centre.
Cheong said, according to the PJ investigation, that the suspect had put two antiques in his trouser pocket while the shopkeeper was greeting other customers, and hid the other one in a plastic bag inside his umbrella, after which he left the shop immediately.
The local suspect, surnamed Ip, is a specialist who has worked for the government for about 15 years, Cheong noted, adding that the suspect admitted the theft but failed to explain his motive.
Cheong said that the Judiciary Police transferred the suspect to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing an aggravated theft charge.
