At the invitation of the Liaison Office in Macau, 15 English and Portuguese-language media journalists began yesterday a five-day fact-finding trip to three cities in Jiangsu province, on the sidelines of which Macau-based Portuguese journalist Carlos Morais José said that the delegation members were expecting to learn more about China, and Jiangsu province in particular, in order to transmit their newly acquired knowledge to their readers in Macau.
“Jiangsu province is a very important province in China throughout history and the Chinese culture……Jiangsu is also one of the most advanced provinces in technological terms of China,” said Morais José, director of Hoje Macau, who heads the media delegation.
A statement by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government said yesterday that Macau is an “important window” for Jiangsu’s opening up to the outside world and one of the earliest important partners for international cooperation, adding that since 2011, Jiangsu has taken the annual Macau International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) as an opportunity to organise the Jiangsu-Macau-Portuguese-speaking Countries Business Summit in Macau for 13 consecutive years, which has made a “positive” contribution to the promotion of Macau’s appropriately diversified economic development.
Organised by the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), the 15 journalists from eight English and Portuguese-language media organisations in Macau have joined a five-day visit to three cities comprising Nanjing*, Wuxi and Suzhou. The well-organised trip, joined also by Liaison Office Publicity and Culture Department Vice Director-General Yin Rutao as the delegation’s consultant on the first three days, began yesterday, with its stop in Jiangsu’s capital Nanjing, where members of the delegation visited The Great Bao’ en Site Scenic Area and the oldest existing Buddhist temple in Chinese history built in the Ming Dynasty in the south of China and rebuilt on the original site of Jianchu Temple in 1412.
The delegation, also includes officials from the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) and Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, was well received by the Jiangsu Provincial Government Information Office, with the hosting of a dinner at Zhong Shan Hotel, during which the office’s deputy director Hu Zhu emphasised the importance of English and Portuguese-language media to both Macau and Jiangsu.
The delegation will continue its visit to Nanjing today and tomorrow, when they will leave for Wuxi, a city in southern Jiangsu province, to visit the Yuantouzhu Science Area and Xishan District Electric Vehicle Industrial Park and IoV Town, before going on to their last stop – Suzhou.
The delegation’s itinerary today includes visits to the Qinhuai Silicon Alley, Nanjing Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Centre, and a night tour around Qinhuai River.
* Nanjing, has 11 districts, an administrative area of 6,600 square kilometres and a population of 9,423,400 as of 2021, is Jiangsu’s political, economic, scientific and educational and cultural centre, classified by the State Council as the first batch of Chinese historical and cultural cities and national key scenic tourist cities, situated in the intersection of the nation’s coastal open zone and the Yangtze River basin development zone. Nanjing has a prominent place in Chinese history and culture, having served as the capital of various Chinese dynasties, kingdoms and republican governments from the third century to October 1, 1949. Being the home to one of the world’s largest inland ports, Nanjing is an important regional centre city of the Yangtze River Delta economic core area, and an important comprehensive transportation hub and communication hub city in the country.
