Young mainland Chinese artist Geng Defa is presenting his recent works in his first solo exhibition in Macau entitled “All Things Bloom”, which comprises 15 hand-painted sculptures and 19 oils, at the Humarish Club in Lisboeta Macau H853 Fun Factory in Cotai.

Born in 1986 in Lanling county, Shandong province, Geng is an artist who has won different awards while his works have been collected by individuals and art museums, according to a recent statement from the Humarish Club. He is the acting director and an associate professor of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts’ Oil Painting Department, where he is also a tutor of master’s degree students.

Geng is a member of both the Chinese Artists Association and the Chinese Oil Painting Society. He is also a director of the Chongqing Oil Painting Society, the statement said.

The statement noted that the artist has held various solo exhibitions, while his works have been displayed in art museums such as the National Art Museum of China (Beijing), Los Angeles Convention and Exhibition Center (USA), Busan Museum of Art (South Korea), and the Duolun Museum of Modern Art (Shanghai).

The statement described Geng’s works as exuding “a romantic surrealistic fantasy that transcends the real world”. They also have a “healing quality”, the statement said, “offering a ‘poetic dwelling’ that allows audiences to experience the vastness of the universe and the void of life, while also capturing the essence of Zen in Chinese philosophy”.

The sculptures on display at the exhibition feature those of cranes and horses of different designs, while the oils include pieces such as “Pine WoodsForest”, “Sea of Clouds” and “Fireworks in the Wild”.

The free admission exhibition is on until July 28. One can visit the gallery daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more details, one can visit https://www.humarish.com
