The Public Security Police (PSP) have once again uncovered a “fake employment” scam, in which a local man, who owns an eatery on Rua do Almirante Sérgio, received 80,000 patacas to help a mainland man fraudulently obtain a local work permit through a fake employment contract as a chef, PSP spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said yesterday.
Cheong said during a regular press conference that the Public Security Police recently discovered that the entry and exit records of the mainland suspect surnamed Guo were suspicious, whose number of visits to Macau was inconsistent with the nature of working as a chef, adding that PSP officers on Wednesday went to the restaurant operated by the local suspect surnamed Fong, where a female non-resident worker (NRW) told the officers that she had been working alone for a long time in the restaurant.
However, Cheong said, according to the data on the eatery’s application for non-local employees, the shop employed two non-resident workers. Cheong noted that the officers took Fong to a police station for questioning, during which Fong admitted that he had received 80,000 patacas from his former employee – a local man surnamed Cheang – to help Guo apply for a blue card via a fake employment contract so that he could gamble in local casinos more conveniently.
The Public Security Police summoned Cheang to a police station on Wednesday. Under questioning, Cheang, who had worked at the eatery for a short period of time in 2022, admitted that he received 90,000 yuan from Guo, of which 80,000 patacas were given to Fong as a “commission”.
The Public Security Police intercepted Guo at the Hengqin checkpoint on the same day. He claimed to have obtained the blue card through a false employment contract merely to make it “more convenient” for him to gamble in local casinos.
The three suspects in their thirties have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of involvement in arranging fake employment.
