Construction of a high-rise building to be primarily used for senior care homes in the Zone A land reclamation area will cost up to 584 million patacas, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) said yesterday.

The government launched a public tender early last month for the project. Potential bidders were required to submit their quotations by Tuesday.

A total of 21 construction companies submitted their bids, which were unsealed by DSOP officials yesterday. All bids were accepted.

A statement by the bureau yesterday announced that the quotations for the project proposed by the 21 bidders range from 495 million to 584 million patacas.

The tender had set a maximum period of 700 working days for the winning bidder to complete the project.

Yesterday’s statement announced that the construction periods proposed by the 21 bidders are 630 or 631 working days.

The project is to construct a building to be used for public facilities on Plot A8 in Zone A, primarily housing senior care homes.

According to the statement, the site where the new public-facility building will be located covers about 2,840 square metres. The building will have 15 storeys plus a three-level underground public carpark, providing about 300 parking spaces. The building will have a gross floor area of about 47,168 square metres.

An area on the complex’s ground floor will be used as parking spaces for minibuses to be used by the future senior care homes.

The statement also underlined that the bureau expects the project to get off the ground in the fourth quarter.

Plot A8 is located on the northern part of Zone A, which is primarily being developed for public housing projects.

Construction of a nine-storey building earmarked for a wet market and other municipal facilities in Zone A was completed in October last year. The wet market municipal complex, located on Plot B6, is the first building completed in Zone A.

The first two subsidised home-ownership scheme (HOS) projects in Zone A have been completed, i.e., one last month and the other last week. According to the DSOP website, a total of 15 public housing projects are currently being carried out in Zone A, comprising 11 HOS projects and 4 social rental housing projects.

One more HOS project in Zone A is slated to be completed later this year, while other public housing projects are scheduled to be completed in the next few years.
