The government said on Friday that the “black substance” recently found on the cities’ two beaches consisted of fuel, according to laboratory tests by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM).
The announcement was made in a joint statement by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) and the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA).
Earlier official statements merely confirmed that a “black substance” had been found on both beaches but did not elaborate on their chemical composition.
