Local consumer satisfaction with eating out in Zhuhai has surpassed that of Macau for two consecutive years, and Macau residents’ level of satisfaction with clothes and footwear shopping in Zhuhai has approached that of Macau according to survey findings released yesterday by the Institute of Sustainable Development of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

The survey, titled “Macau Consumer Satisfaction Index 2024”, which gauges local residents’ shopping experiences in Macau and Zhuhai, was conducted from March 19 to April 11 this year. It successfully interviewed 919 local residents through questionnaires. The institute started the annual survey in 2007.

The index scales from 0 to 100 points represent different levels of satisfaction. The higher the score, the higher the satisfaction.

Li Yanchen, an assistant professor at the Business School of MUST, released the results of the survey during a press conference on the MUST campus in Taipa yesterday, pointing out that there are many factors affecting the data, including traffic, diversity of services and products, while the pataca-yuan exchange rate is also a major reason.

Findings of the survey show that the satisfaction of residents in purchasing clothing and footwear items in Macau stood at 75.4 points, a slight increase of 1.21 percent compared with last year, while satisfaction with restaurants in Macau decreased slightly by 1.79 percent to 71.2 points, mainly due to a decline in the value for money (VfM) index

Findings of the survey show that the satisfaction of residents in purchasing clothing and footwear items in Zhuhai was 74.2 points, “very similar” compared with last year, while satisfaction with restaurants in Zhuhai reached 75.4 points, exceeding that of Macau.

Li underlined that the latest findings are “stable” compared to last year, adding he hoped that local merchants would continue to improve the quality of their products and stabilise prices, so as to improve consumers’ level of satisfaction.
