Trasy Lou Yee Man, the general manager of global ride-hailing giant Uber in Macau, said yesterday that the company has been in touch with the government, hoping to a “have constructive dialogue” with it in the near future, while the Transport Bureau (DSAT) emphasised in a statement later in the day that Uber’s service is illegal.
The San Francisco-based company launched its controversial service in Macau in November in 2015. The local government then said that Uber’s service was illegal, warning that Uber drivers would face a 30,000 pataca fine.
Lou made the remarks during a Chinese New Year luncheon for the media at MGM in Nape.
