Amagao Gallery at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau is displaying over 100 pieces of artworks and crockery made by Portugal-based ceramic producers “Vista Alegre” and “Bordallo Pinheiro”, with the exhibition on until August 4.

The gallery is managed by Galeria 57 (Macau) in partnership with the hotel operator. Titled “Made with Love”, a recent joint statement by the hotel and gallery noted that the creators of the pieces are “distinguished” producers in Portugal.

The statement said that Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory founded in 1824 by José Ferreira Pinto Basto (1774-1839) was the first industrial unit dedicated to producing porcelain in Portugal.  Bordallo Pinheiro, meanwhile, was founded by Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro (1846-1905) and is now a globally known and sought-after brand, the statement said.

Amagao Gallery Managing Partner Victor Hugo Marreiros was quoted by the statement as saying: “What we show here is a small sample of the vastness of the field in Portuguese art and design in the creative production world. We believe this is an appropriate way to associate ourselves with the celebration of Portugal’s National Day.”

Area Vice President, Macau Operations for Artyzen Hospitality Group and General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau Rutger Verschuren was quoted by the statement as saying that the exhibition was “a new approach by Amagao Gallery to present a type of artwork – porcelain and ceramics – unseen here before. Not only are they artisanal creations, but many are also practical”.

Verschuren added that “porcelain and ceramics can be considered as kind of language between the East and the West”.

One can view the works on display at the free-admission gallery from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
