A mainland university female student falsely reported a case to the Judiciary Police (PJ) last Monday, claiming that she was raped in a hotel guestroom in Cotai by a man with whom she had travelled to Macau, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said on Friday.

According to Friday’s regular press conference, the 22-year-old student surnamed Zhang came to Macau with the man – a young mainlander whom Zhang met online early this month – on June 21 when they checked into the hotel guestroom in Cotai, and where Zhang claimed to have been raped.

A PJ investigation showed, according to Ho, that Zhang had come to Macau with the man before she made the report and no injuries were found on her body upon medical examination. Hence, the police took her in for further questioning.

Under the questioning, Zhang admitted to having falsely accused the victim of rape as he failed to keep his promise to give her a gift worth 6,000 patacas, adding that she had had consensual sex with the man twice.

The student was arrested last Monday and has meanwhile been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further questioning and possible arraignment on a charge of making a false police report.
