The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) announced in a statement yesterday that the fourth Macau-Taipa bridge has been fully completed including road surfacing because of which it can open later this quarter.

The statement said that follow-up work will now be carried out such as the final survey inspection and formal acceptance, the removal of temporary structures, and test runs.

Macau’s fourth sea-crossing bridge connecting the Macau peninsula and Taipa island is officially named Macau Bridge.

The bridge’s main structure was completed in March this year when its entire section was fully connected, after which constructors were setting up its various auxiliary facilities and carrying out other work such as the bridge deck’s anti-corrosion work, waterproofing and asphalt paving, as well as the installation of bridge fences, wind protection barriers and electromechanical systems.

The bridge project got off the ground in March 2020 for a price tag of 5.27 billion patacas.

The bridge’s road network projects on both the peninsula and Taipa sides cost around 1.4 billion patacas in total.

Macau Bridge connects the Zone A and Zone E1 land reclamation areas, which are both new urban areas, neither of which has any inhabitants yet.

The 3,085-metre-long bridge will have eight vehicular lanes – four in each direction, with one lane in each direction for motorcycles only.

Yesterday’s statement also said that the bridge’s asphalt paving was completed in 102 days, three days earlier than initially planned, despite the fact that Macau was affected by “many” rainstorms last quarter.

These two handout photos taken and released by the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) yesterday shows the completed Macau Bridge (above) and its connection with the Zone A land reclamation area and the man-made island where the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) Macau checkpoint is located.
