The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that registration for the “1st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival – Music Camp” in August is now open, with the camp featuring Grammy Award-winning American violinist Joshua Bell and string musicians from London’s Academy of St Martin in the Fields Orchestra.
A total of 40 places are available for the camp, which is slated to be held from August 16 to 21, according to the statement. It is hosted by the bureau in conjunction with Wynn Resorts.
The statement noted that participants will receive one-on-one lessons and a Master Class from the string musicians. The statement added that a string orchestra will be formed where participants will rehearse with Bell and the musicians.
The participants will perform with the string musicians during the achievement presentation concert on the camp’s last day, while outstanding violinists can also perform the solo part of Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins with Bell.
The statement added that cultural tours will also be held for the camp.
Camp registration is open to local and foreign youngsters born between 2006 and 2016 and are learning string instruments. They must submit an application form and performance video by 6 p.m. on July 12 to www.om-macau.org/micaf-musiccamp, where details can also be found, according to the statement. Admitted students will be notified via email on or before July 25.
The registration fee for admitted students is 10,000 patacas per person. For admitted students with a permanent or non-permanent ID cards, the registration fee is 2,000 patacas.
