After spending some time in a bar, a local man hired a chauffeur to drive him to a carpark on Estrada Gov. A. Oliveira in Taipa, but then he got into the driver’s seat and drove out of the parking space after the chauffeur had parked the car and left, when he then parked crashed into three vehicles next to his, a signboard, a vertical handrail, and an iron post equipped with a CCTV camera system, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Chi Weng said at a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong identified the drunken driver as a local man in his forties surnamed Sun, who told the police that he works as a public relations officer.
The accident happened at about 3 a.m. on Sunday, when Public Security Police (PSP) officers arriving at the scene responding to a report from the carpark staff saw Sun in a “semi-drunken” state, with a blood alcohol content of 2.28 grams per litre after he was given a breathalyser test.
Under questioning, Sun admitted to have spent some time at a bar at around midnight that day. He claimed that he only remembered being driven back to the carpark, after which he couldn’t remember anything.
According to Wong, the Public Security Police checked their citywide CCTV surveillance system and the nearby surveillance systems, which showed that after the chauffeur had left the car, Sun got into the driver’s seat and drove out of the parking space.
Sun has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a drunk-driving charge.
