A local man banned from driving was arrested for drunk driving on Friday, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Lai is a salesman in his twenties.
According to Kong, on Friday a Public Security Police officer noticed a man driving without headlights along Avenida do Almirante Lacerda. The officer intercepted him and discovered that he was reeking of alcohol. The driver, Lai, was given a breathalyser test which detected his alcohol concentration at 1.04 grams of alcohol per litre of blood.
Upon checking the records, the officer discovered that Lai has been banned from driving for a previous drunk-driving offence.
Under questioning, Lao admitted to drinking alcohol earlier that day and that he was aware of the driving ban but chose to drive regardless.
Lao has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drunk driving and disobedience.
