Macau recorded this year’s fifth imported case of dengue fever yesterday, the Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement last night.

According to the statement, the patient is a 41-year-old local woman who lives in Poplar Court in Ocean Gardens in Taipa.

The woman travelled to Sri Lanka for a business trip with three colleagues between July 2 and 5. After returning to Macau, the statement said, she came down with a headache and joint pain on Monday last week, and then a fever the next day, when she travelled to the Philippines alone for another business trip until Friday last week.

After returning to Macau, the statement said, she developed a rash on Monday, after which she sought treatment at the University Hospital of the private Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Taipa the next day where she had her blood sample collected for a test.

She was diagnosed with Grade III dengue fever yesterday, the statement said.

Last night’s statement said that the woman was resting at home.

According to the statement, the patient has told the Health Bureau that after returning to Macau from Sri Lanka and from the Philippines, she did not go to work, and neither did she visit any parks or other green areas.

The statement said that none of the woman’s family members living with her and her colleagues on the business trip to Sri Lanka had come down with dengue symptoms.

The statement underlined that the Macau Health Bureau has classified the woman’s case as an imported case of dengue fever after considering her travel history and the time of the onset of her symptoms, as well as its laboratory test results.

The Health Bureau has carried out measures to eradicate mosquitoes in the area around the patient’s home.

Macau reported seven imported cases of dengue fever last year.
