The Fire Services Bureau (CB) announced yesterday it recorded 1,074 fires last year, 4 percent more than in the previous year.
Lam Io Fan, a senior officer of the bureau, announced the 2016 fire statistics during a press conference at the CB headquarters in Nam Van.
According to Lam, the fires were mainly caused by people forgetting to turn off their stoves, 245 cases in total. Burning joss papers and negligence, such as fires caused by carelessly disposing of lit cigarette ends, were also some of the most common causes, said Lam.
