A local shop owner reported to the police on Monday that his mainland bank account was frozen after he received money from a customer, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said in a regular press conference yesterday.
The victim’s shop sells electronics and alcoholic beverages. On Friday, a mainland customer visited the shop and purchased 15 smartphones and two bottles of Moutai, totalling 143,000 yuan (158,000 patacas). The customer transferred the payment to the victim’s bank account.
Moutai, also known as Maotai, is a style of baijiu (“clear liquor”) produced in the town of Maotai in Guizhou province.
On Sunday, the victim discovered that his bank account had been frozen. Suspecting that the funds he received were of illicit origin, he promptly reported the case to the police.
